Work life balance.... Is there such a thing? Creating it seems to be a lot of work in itself and yet, the dream lives on that it is in fact, possible. So how does one go about creating a work-life balance? Well, suffice to say, I'm no expert but I believe the first step would be in sorting out your priorities! What's important to you? What is the main focus in your life? Is it your children? Spending more time together as a family and less time in an office? I guess the questions are endless!!
I am fortunate enough to be able to work from home and while to some that sounds ideal, it is not always that easy. Working and actually getting stuff done is a task in itself around the constant chatter and pitter patter (or more like a stampede in my house!) so I've learnt to make time and shift things around. For me, it has meant working within those time slots I've alocated and when I'm at work, I'm at work. When I'm with the family, I'm with the family. It's not perfect, nor should it be. My kids get to see me working - because they need to learn the value of adult time and earning a lifestyle for our family - but they also get me, undistracted, when it's not work time.
So, for us, work-life balance means creating a space where what's important is placed in priority and everything else is filtered through that to see where it fits. If it doesn't fit, it's gone! Having too much to do and being busy are far too often regarded as some sort of badge in our society and I think it's time we stopped, took a breath and realised what we are being busy for because as they say, one day you'll realise, it was the small stuff, the stuff you thought could wait, that was the stuff that was most important. Cherish your moments, live each day and spend time on the things that are most important in life. Life is meant for living, growing, being. That's what we strive for and continue to work on every single day.
